Our bookstore is proud of our love for the planet. We have many different methods and materials used daily so that we can be as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. Yes, we are a small business but we believe everyone can make a difference in the fight to protect the Earth.

Notice: We may not have a physical location for our store yet, but many of these practices still apply.

Below we have listed some of the ways that we are able to be more sustainable in our everyday workings:

  • The business cards and bookmarks that are customized for our bookstore are from two  companies that are trying to have more sustainable practices...

    • Store bookmarks are made with wildflower seed paper from Botanical PaperWorks

    • Other business cards are from recycled t-shirts from MOO

  • We use a variety of non-toxic materials from green companies when we clean and manage the store...

    • Hand towels instead of paper towels in the restrooms and break room

    • Washable dusters

    • Who Gives A Crap toilet paper

    • Blueland cleaning supplies

    • Reusable plates, bowels, cups, mugs, and utensils in the break room

    • Biodegradable trash bags

  • Our office supplies are strictly from suppliers who pride themselves in ecofriendly materials such as EcoEnclose...

    • Reused and recyclable shipping boxes

    • Recyclable paper tape

    • Reused or recyclable packaging materials

    • Laser printer

    • Thermal printed price labels

    • Stapeless stapler

    • Recycled paper envelopes

    • Recycled paper printer paper

    • Zero waste stickers

    • Zero waste shipping labels

    • Most of our writing utensils are donated

    • We encourage using reusable shopping bags but also offer paper bags for $0.50 at purchase

    • Paper shopping bags for delivery services

  • Books may not have the most sustainable practices but we try our best...

    • Our main products are used books that are donated rather than thrown away

    • A majority of our new book inventory is comprised of remainder books, meaning books that other businesses could not sell and returned to the publishers. We sell these at a discounted rate

    • Some publishers are trying to be more environmentally conscious which we are staying aware of so that we can prioritize their books within our curated new book selection

Notice: As of right now some of these practices are difficult to achieve due to COVID-19 restrictions. We are still doing our best to avoid unnecessary waste but the health of our employees and customers comes first. This is why there are some wasteful things that will have continued use in our store until further notice, such as disposable masks, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, paper towels, and like items.

future plans

Our business has many ideas for how we can help the sustainability movement for the better. One thing we have in mind is becoming carbon neutral*. It is not something that we can do as of right now but will definitely be pursued in the future along with finding other more environmentally friendly alternatives to use in our bookstore.

*Carbon neutral is the process of offsetting carbon emissions. This is usually done by an individual or business donating a calculated amount of funds to organizations and nonprofits who work to lower carbon emissions that are put into our atmosphere. These methods typically involve any variety of ways to help the planet such as planting trees and assisting people who are switching to renewable resources.
